I am getting more and more worried about the "Swine flu" and if I am making the right decision to not take the immunization for it and also the flu shot. Last week a child died in Naperville which is only 20 minutes from here and this week another child passed away in the very next town over from where we live. I have heard that Swine Flu is in our schools and probably only a matter of time before they consider shutting the schools down.
We live in a very small town and If someone in one school gets sick it passes through all the schools due to the fact that everyone has older or younger siblings in the other schools.
I made the choice not to do the flu shot nor the "Swine Flu" immunization. I know that I have been fighting the MS exacerbation for a bunch of months now and not sure how well my immune system is at the moment. I know that I haven't been feeling well the last few weeks but trying to hold out to get to my appointment this Friday with the Specialist. Remember... 1 thing at a time. The thing is, that my kids are starting not to feel well and it is scaring me. I have 3 more days til my appointment. Then I will hopefully have the answer to what is going to happen with my stomach issues. I wish there was a crystal ball at this moment to tell me what to do.
I read an article about 2 weeks ago saying that older people, people with compromised immune systems and young kids are the ones with the chances of having the worse complications with The "Swine Flu" it said that the teenagers were the ones not getting affected as bad. This week they said that out of 45 people that tragically died from Complications due to other factors but also had swine flu were the teenagers. So which one is it???
I would love feedback as to what you are choosing to do? I know I haven't gotten phone calls or letters from my Doctor telling me what to do.. So, I would love to see what you are choosing..

I am still leaning towards not taking the flu shot. I have a fear of medications in general so I've never considered taking it. I went to a MS meeting (by the MS Society) a few weeks ago and they were telling us NOT to take the nasal-spray flu vaccine, but the other one is OK. I don't know what's right or wrong.
I think if I've ever had the flu, I would probably feel differently.
I'm curious to see what others are doing.
I take the flu shot every year and have not had problems with it. I am a bit skeptical about the swine flu shot though. I think it was rushed through too quick. They say the older a person is the less likely they will have bad swine flu problems. Apparently we have some immunization already. Kids don't have it yet and they are having some serious issues. It is a very worrisome time.
subect to change of course, I got the regular flu shot but am passing on the swine flu. If you decide to go ahead make sure you do not get the spray because it has the live virus, to dangerous for you (us). I am older than you, i.e. no kids at home so that is a factor, so you still have to decide.
good luck!
My husband was diagnosed in 1981. He had the "regular" flu shot and will have the H1N1 flu shot. Both were recommended by his primary care doctor and his neurologist.
Reading your profile I understand what you mean about not understanding what you've read. My husband can't remember what he read 10 minutes ago. Have your neurologist do some cognitive tests on you. It might shed some light on what's going on with your memory. My husband is the one diagnosed in 1981.
Hi - I am living with MS - and have never received a flu shot - although this year....I'm reconsidering. Tomorrow I will see my neurologist who will probably tell me that I can't return to work (I've been off on short-term disability since July - after having worked 2 years after being on 'permanent' SS disability for 11 years...did that make sense? Worked all my life - then on SS disability for 11 years - then back to work two years and now off again in the middle of an exacerbation...) ANYWAY...we have a seven year old who is starting to complain of flu symptoms -just got an email from her teacher who said she has complained a LOT today in school... ugh! H1N1 is in our school system (confirmed cases) and I just want to turn into a complete hermit and wear a face mask all the time! I know we should absolutely NOT take the nasal-spray live vaccine - as for the other? It's not available yet in my state (PA)...but when it does become available...what to do?
I'm rambling...and stressing (there's something good for MS, huh? Stress!) ;)
May God bless you! I'm bookmarking your blog - I'll be back! I pray your MS doesn't get you down!
